Annihilator: Never, neverland

The follow up to the critically acclaimed "Alice In Hell" continues in the same vein with the big change of course occurring in the vocal department. Exit Rampage and enter Coburn Pharr (ex Omen) who has a much more melodic and great metal voice. The songs are even better than on the debut in my opinion, more complex yet more catchy at the same time. Once again, Jeff Waters absolutely shreds here with some really amazing leads. I love it when he mixes the metal with more bluesy and rock oriented lead playing, listen for example to the solo in "The Fun Palace" or in "Stonewall" - timeless stuff. Annihilator has suffered major personnel disturbance over the years, the one constant remaining of course main man Jeff Waters. These troubles have over time hindered the band's progress and the real breakthrough never came. A shame, since Waters is one of metal's biggest talents and this band deserved to be in a much better position than how things turned out. I lost interest in the band after Pharr left but as of 2007 Waters continue releasing new albums, in total 12 full length records have been released, the quality of which have differed over the years. - defender666
