Atheists debut abum "Piece Of Time" showed that American death metal from Florida could be so much more than Massacre, Morbid Angel and Obituary. Hearing this in 1990, I was completely blown away. The technical prowess, the aggressive sound (no down tuned guitars here) and the hysterical vocals had me at first listen. This band held so much promise and it's a shame that they really never got beyond cult underground status. The untimely death of bassist Roger Patterson after the release of this album is a real shame, and a tragedy easily compared to that of Cliff Burton. Anyway, this is a unique piece of metal history and should have its place in any death metal collection. - defender666
