Amoral: Reptile Ride

I have to say I'm very impressed by this young Finnish band that seem to go from strength to strength. The musical abilites and technical skills on display here are undeniable but these guys are more than that - they actually know how to write great songs as well. This is modern death metal at its best with a very heavy production and a lot of variety on offer. The songs cover the entire spectrum, from fast all-out aggression tracks like album opener "Leave Your Dead Behind" and the excellently blistering and improbably titled "D-Drop Bop" to the very slow and heavy "Few And Far Between". Other stand out tracks include "Nervasion" and "Mute", both holding some interesting unexpected twists and turns. Despite the hideous cover art, this is a solid album and it shall be interesting to see where this very talented and up and coming band will go to next. - defender666
